Working from Home in the New Year as a Mompreneur

It’s hard to believe we’re three weeks into a new year! I had so many plans on how I wanted to progress my career as a work-from-home mom, a freelance writer, and a small business owner. But all the best-laid plans fall to the wayside without discipline and dedication.

I’ll never admit to being a procrastinator! Image made with Canva.

2023 – Making Money Working at Home

So, am I admitting to being a slacker? I plead the fifth! This year didn’t start off the way I planned. I wanted to hit the ground running with the very detailed blogging strategy I created for this website and my two other business ventures, Sarandipity’s Creations – your one-stop shop for crafting and humorous fails, and Adventures with Canines – the place to visit if you’re a proud dog parent looking for fun and info on how to keep your furbabies happy and healthy.

Instead, it started with a flare-up of my chronic disease, which landed me a stay in the hospital and several weeks of lethargy and low energy. During times like these, I’m so thankful that I have a flexible work life that allows me to adjust my schedule to accommodate random flukes.

Being a work-from-home mom and a business owner allows me to have an income, even when I’m not doing any work. We refer to this as passive income. There are a ton of ways that you can earn money without having to actively do work.

How I’m Making Money At Home

My favorite ways are with affiliate marketing – referring a brand or product to other users and receiving a commission based on their responses. Unsure what I mean?

Another easy way to make a passive income is with an Etsy or Shopify store. Selling printables, graphics, planners, and digital bundles is a great way to work out your creative side without a lot of work. With the use of Canva (affiliate link), you can have an item ready to sell in less than ten minutes.

And while I make a good income with my passive ventures, I also have active jobs. I have several private and public clients that use me to work as a freelance writer. So, when I’m not busy creating creative items, I’m busy working as a wordsmith, crafting beautiful prose from simple words. Where can you find me? Check it out!

Making Money with Passive Income

If you’re interested in starting your own passive income source through Etsy, or even smarter, your own website, you may wonder how to get started and where to find materials? I love this course if you want to learn how to create a profitable printable business.

Every item I have for sale in my Etsy shop or on my website is available for you to use as you wish. You can sell the items in your own store or use the materials to create your own physical goods to sell. What items can you make that customers would buy? Try:

  • Mugs
  • Tumblers
  • Shirts
  • Sweaters
  • Jewelry
  • Crochet pieces
  • Photo collages
  • Sublimation
  • Mousepads
  • Coasters
  • Hats

If you don’t have the money to invest upfront in the tools needed to start a craft business, no fear. You can start with print-on-demand services. I’ve used several sites and found that my favorites are:

Making Money with PLR Packs

And a new way that I’ve learned how to make money without having to do a lot of work is by downloading and purchasing PLR Packs.

PLR stands for Private Label Rights and means that a piece is available to use for monetary gains by anyone. If you’re at the beginning of your business and can’t afford to hire writers, pay for AI programs, or want to devote hours to researching, writing, and editing content, PLR is for you.

As much as I love to write, sometimes, I don’t have the time to start from scratch. These bundles are going to save me a ton of time getting my blogs back on track after my slow start.

How to Make Money at Home with Free Events

Another secret tool I learned about late last year that I think has been a game changer for my business is attending online summits. You would be shocked at how many people offer free resources and online classes, workshops, and training videos.

These events typically last a few days and have a general theme. And each of the attendees provides a freebie to the guests. If you’re trying to build an email list, offering a free tool or resource is the best way to hook readers.

Want to stay up to date with the massive range of summit topics that occur and when? Sign up for my email list and get daily to weekly updates on free resources you can use to build a successful passive income business while working from home, including upcoming events, deals, bundles, and gifts.
