Revenge and the struggle for power all play a part in this urban fantasy suspense, taking you from the rocky coast of Maine to the heart of New York City, the NYPD and the vampire underground, where Weres and Vampires are forced to work together to solve the mystery of what’s tearing their veiled world apart from the inside out.

About the Author:

authorMarianne Morea is a New Yorker, born and bred, and for the most part her stories and characters embody the grit and complexity of the city. An avid traveler, she uses her experiences from around the world in all her books. There isn’t a place her characters live or travel that she haven’t been herself, and through her words, tries to transport my readers. Like most authors, her love affair with the written word started as a child with the books she read. Even today, she loves to read almost as much as she loves to write. Marianne’s favorite stories are the ones that transport her, that bring her to places and introduces her to characters that leave readers breathless…the ones that spark the fire of her imagination, allowing her to dream in the world of‘what if?’She’s always been a scribbler, and from the time she could write her name, Marianne has been making up stories. So it was no surprise to family and friends when she earned degrees in both Journalism and Fine Art, but after working in the trenches of Madison Avenue as a Graphic Artist, she decided to do what she loves most fulltime.Write.

Her dark paranormal romance,Blood Legacy, is the first book in her Legacy Series, and takes you from New York City to the Costa del la Luz in Spain, to foggy London and the romance of Rome. The story also takes you back in time 300 years to a place rife with conflict and brutality, bringing an historical edge to my vampires, their lives, a love that spanned the centuries and the search for absolution and redemption that carries death in its wake.Hunter’s BloodandTwice Cursed are books one and two in Marianne Morea’s contemporary shifter series,Cursed by Blood. The story is set on the east coast of the U.S., taking you from the rocky coast of Maine to the heart of New York City, the NYPD and the vampire underground. Revenge and the struggle for power all play a part in this urban fantasy suspense, where Weres and Vampires are forced to work together to solve the mystery of what’s tearing their veiled world apart from the inside out.

In the meantime Marianne is also a founding member as well as a former President of The Paranormal Romance Guild,a not-for-profit organization for readers and authors of the genre. She’s now a PRG Board Member and Co-Chair of the PRG Event/Marketing Team. She is still writing, and when not sitting‘bichok’ (but in a chair hands on keyboard), she’s spending time with her husband and three kids, traveling to exciting, romantic places …for inspiration, of course! Who says dreams can’t come true?

Interview One:

Character Interview with psychic, Lily Saburi, main character and heroine from Marianne Morea’s Urban Fantasy Saga, Cursed by Blood…

Interviewer: “I have wanted to meet you for so long. Tell me, Lily…most of the ladies think Sean is quite a hunk, is it true that when you first met him all you could think about was licking his thighs?”

[Lily blinks, open mouthed] “Boy, they told me you were direct…but jeez. Umm, yeah. Sean struck me immediately as a hottie. The way he walked toward me when I was in that hospital bed. It was entirely predatory, and he oozed sex appeal—I couldn’t help myself, but then again I was on heavy pain meds. I guess to answer your question, yes—he was, and is, mouthwateringly handsome.”

[Chuckling off set, Sean winks] “Back attcha, babe.”

Interviewer: “When Terry died, we all know how difficult that was for you, yet we really don’t see you cry. Where did you channel all that pain you so obviously felt?”

[Lily closes her eyes and exhales sadly before opening them again] “When something like that happens, you’re numb at first. You don’t know what to feel because the situation is just so unreal. And with everything else—the fact that I knew it was a Were that killed my best friend—it just made this unreality all the more unreal. I did cry. But my anger at the situation—at myself—was just too overwhelming at the time. Anyone who picks up the series knows that. I did cry, but just not where anyone could see.”

Interviewer: “You lost your family, but now you’ve inherited another through Sean. How are you adjusting?”

[Smiling, Lily glances over her shoulder at Sean] “Adjustment…that’s the perfect word to describe it. Things haven’t been smooth sailing for me and Sean since we got together. We didn’t just fall in love and ride off into the sunset together. We’ve had quite a bit of fine tuning and many heated moments. As Sean says, trouble is my middle name. Edward Parr…[Lily pauses, making a face]…he learned the hard way not to fuck with me and mine. But, I’ll leave that for you to find out. As to my family, I’ve still got Terry’s folks, and Sean’s family is now my family, so for the most part it’s all good.”

Interviewer: “Why do you suppose Ms. Morea titled the book Twice Cursed?”

[Lily tilts her head, thoughtfully] “I asked her that after she left us all hanging at the end of Hunter’s Blood. Big mistake, by the way. You think the readers hated that cliffhanger? Just ask the cast how we felt! But that’s another questions… I asked her why she picked Twice Cursed…I mean, she hadn’t even finished the outline and the book was named! She told me it was because of the vampires. You see, Weres are born dual natured. We are just another race akin to humankind. Marianne said that vampires were once human and so cursed into their existence, and what she was going to put them through in the book made them doubly cursed…so, Twice Cursed. Not bad, huh?”

Interviewer: “Tell me about Stephanie, Sean’s niece. She’s a psychic like you. Are you planning to help her develop her talents?”

[Lily shrugs, but glances over at Sean] “I didn’t come into my ‘talent’ as you call it until I was ten years old, after my parents died. Stephie was born with hers, so I’m not really sure if her senses work the same way as mine, but I will definitely be there for her. She is a lucky little girl, in that she had great people around her who love her. She’s only four years old, but man is she strong-minded, and the level of talent she’s exhibited already is a little scary. You should keep an eye out for her, there’s a story brewing there too!”

Interviewer: “What about you and Ryan and you and Jack? Doesn’t Sean ever get jealous?”

[Lily leans forward eyes narrowed at the interviewer] “I wouldn’t go there if I were you. I can’t stand it when people try to stir the shit. The subject of Jack Cochran is off limits, and I mean that. People can think what they like. Yeah, I’m over the top and some people might even say I’m a flirt, but that’s not true. I have very different, yet special relationships with both Jack and Ryan. You’ll just have to read the book to find out why and how…just don’t bring up Jack’s name to Sean…trust me on that. I know he told you I was hard to handle, but he’s the one who gets all alpha possessive. Do yourself a favor and ask me a different question.”

Interviewer [swallowing hard as she glances past Lily to see Sean’s suspicious scowl] “Okay then…moving on…You mentioned the vampires. What did you think when you first met them? Did they live up to your expectations or were they completely different from what you thought?”

[With half a smirk, Lily leans back in her chair and crosses her arms] “Wow. Who’da thought that talking about vampires would be a safer bet for a question? [She smiles at the interviewer] It’s okay, and that’s actually a good question. The vampires were a complete anomaly to me, nothing like I envisioned. They were eerily beautiful, but only on the surface. Their evil was patent, and anyone with any kind of intuitive nature would readily see it, and then immediately shit their pants. They are grace and civility, beauty in a sleek but deadly way, like a panther waiting to strike. Although I have to say that Remy has a story that is worthy of being told. His sorrow and his anguish is a tangible as his physical deformity. Makes me wonder what happened to him.”

Interviewer: “But don’t you and Sean have a close connection to the vampires now? Couldn’t you just ask Remy what happened?”

You would think so, but no. The is still a divide, and I would never have that kind of effrontery to assume to ask Remy something that personal. Perhaps we’ll all find out at some point in the saga. There’s a lot more to unfold…”

Interviewer: And my last question has to be…do you ever think you’ll choose pack life and race the moon with Sean?

[Lily shrugs, slyly] I don’t know yet. Guess we’ll both just have to wait and see.

Interviewer: Thank you, Lily, for sharing so much with us, and yes, there is much more to come, and I can’t wait!

Interview 2:

Character Interview with Sean Leighton, current Alpha of the Brethren of Weres and main character from Marianne Morea’s Urban Fantasy Saga, Cursed by Blood…

Interviewer: Tell about yourself, Sean…

[Chuckling, Sean raises an eyebrow] “What’s there to tell, really?” [He runs a hand through his hair, exhaling, sexy half smile teasing the corner of his mouth] “I’m a shape-shifter, someone blessed with dual natures. Other than that, I grew up not much differently than you. I had a mother and a father and a younger brother. Unfortunately, I’m all that’s left of my family.”

Interviewer: Didn’t your brother have a family, and let’s not forget about Lily…

[Sean snorts.] “I couldn’t forget Lily even if I wanted to! But, you’re right, of course…Jerard is survived by his wife, Rissa and their daughter Stephie, and that little one is something special—and not just because she’s my niece. She’s responsible in a huge way for saving more than one life, but you’ll have to read the story to find out about that.”

Interviewer: You still haven’t said a word about Lily. Trouble in paradise?

Lily’s middle name is trouble, so I would tread very carefully if I were you. As to my relationship with her: she’s headstrong and hard to handle, yet compassionate, super smart and fierce…not to mention beautiful…she’s everything I never knew I wanted and I wouldn’t change a thing. Trouble in paradise? With Lily, it wouldn’t be paradise unless there was trouble.”

Interviewer: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

[Shrugs] “I never really gave it much thought. In my world you are born into your dual nature and automatically part of a pack or pride or whatever the grouping is specific to your animal nature. I knew I was destined to be the Alpha of my pack because of my blood line. Challenges are far and few these days, but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d be the Alpha of something as unusual as the Brethren or that we’d have anything like our experimental Compound.”

Interviewer: Out of all the natures you were gifted with when you became Alpha, which is the most fun to shift into?

[A sheepish grin spreads across Sean’s face] My hunter’s will never let me live this down, but it has to be the gift of flight I received from the Avians. Flying is an unbelievable rush, the only thing that comes close is racing the full moon. Our Compound may be multi-specied, but each group still thinks their particular set of ‘skills’ is king. Me, I love being a wolf, but flying is amazing.

Interviewer: What are you passionate about these days?

[Smiling broadly now, he glances over his shoulder at the pretty honey blonde sitting off to the side of the interview set] “Lily. She’s my whole existence now, her and the survival of our Compound. Though I do wish she’d change her hair color back to her natural dark chestnut…”

[Lily blows a razzberry at him off set.]

Interviewer: [chuckling] “Well, you know what they say about blondes having more fun…

[Raising an eyebrow, Sean cocks his head to the side] “With Lily, you never go right to fun. [He winks at her.] But it’s definitely a rollercoaster ride worth taking.”

Interviewer: What is your favorite meal?

You’re kidding, right?” [With a sly grin, Sean leans forward in his chair, letting a bit of a growl rumble in his throat for effect] “I do enjoy a very, very, succulent…[the interviewer scoots back in her chair and Sean laughs out loud] “Sorry, I just couldn’t resist. I guess my favorite meal is what any carnivore would crave… a big, juicy steak.

Interviewer: What do you do to unwind and relax?

I run in wolf form through the forest. It calms me, and helps me to put things into perspective or clear my mind.” [Looking over his shoulder again, he smiles, shaking his head] “Lily hasn’t joined me yet, she’s still debating on whether or not she wants that particular part of our lunar driven world.”

Interviewer: If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be?

[Sean takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly] “I’m not really sure how to answer that question. I guess I would have to say, my brother, Jerard. With the Compound and the coming together of all the species of Were, I was preoccupied and didn’t see that his marriage was crumbling and that he had lost his way. If I had paid more attention, perhaps he’d still be alive.”

Interviewer: What is something people would be surprised about you?

That unlike Hollywood stereotypes, Weres are not bloodthirsty, mindless beasts come the full moon. We can shift any time, any day. We are as comfortable and as cognizant in our animal forms as we are when we’re in our human forms. We’re really not that different from anyone else—just like humans, we have our good days and our bad days. We get angry and vent, we laugh, we cry, we bleed when we’re hurt, we have prejudices that we need to rise above…we’re just trying to find our way in this world just like you.”

Interviewer: Thank you, Sean, for taking the time to meet with us this evening.

 EXCERPT:

Thunder clapped and my lips trembled at the intense sound. My lips give me away. I’ve learned to lie with my eyes: to smile with them when I feel disgust; to make them sparkle when I feel dread. My lips though, they curl at those I distrust and sneer at those who repulse me. They cling to an older version of me. They still think they belong to Joy Humbolt.

The rest of me is entirely Sydney Rye. Sydney’s arms are strengthened from endless hours of pushups and tricep presses, her stomach is hard from crunches and side bends. And my legs, I use my legs to run. I don’t know who Sydney Rye would be if she didn’t run.

I tested the water in the tub, and finding it almost unbearably hot, eased into it. Water lapped at my clavicles. I let my eyelids close til my lashes kissed.

They started as a buzzing, like the sound of bugs against a window screen at night. The noise grew louder and I could make out individual words in the din. Joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy it seemed to be twerping.

I sat up with a start in the cold bath. Water sloshed over the edge and I looked around wildly for a moment trying to recollect where I was. The honey and cream colored marble, the gold faucet, and my toenails painted sweet salmon pink. Mexico City, pretending to be Sydney Rye, pretending to be Melanie Franks.

I sat back in the tub but it was too cold so I climbed out. Wrapping myself in a big fluffy robe I walked back into the bedroom. Blane was where I left him, engrossed in paperwork. He glanced up at me and then back down at his notes. Blue lifted his head off the carpet and tracked me as I got underwear, socks and a sports bra out of a drawer and then walked to my suitcase to pull out jogging shorts, a tank top and my running shoes. Seeing the shoes Blue stood and came over to me. His tail wagging, he tried to follow me into the bathroom but I closed the door.

I changed quickly while preparing myself mentally for the physical challenge ahead. I loved to run but had trouble taking that first step. Blue was a great help with this as he had no problem getting out the door. Blue did not have half the problems I did. He woke up in the morning without an alarm, he ate perfectly balanced meals; Blue’s life was filled with easy discipline. Mine came at more of a price.

Out on the street the rain had stopped. I walked a couple of blocks just letting my body warm up to the idea of movement. It didn’t take long before I wanted to run. I started going a little faster, jogging gently past shop windows filled with pencil-thin, faceless mannequins posing in extraordinary fabrics. A woman teetering on stiletto heels while jabbering into her cell phone walked a small, white, curly-haired dog. The little dog strained against its pink halter, yapping at us. Blue’s head stayed straight and even with my hip. The little dog’s bark faded as we turned onto a side street filled with shade, the sticky sweet scent of flowers, and the soft whoosh of a breeze. My pace picked up as I tread on fallen bright purple petals. I felt my heart quickening as Chapultepec Park rose up ahead.

Crossing into the park, I began a sprint. A line of families waiting to enter the zoo watched us pass. Little arms shot out to point at Blue, whispers of “lobo” followed us.

I felt like I was flying. Not a thought entered my head only the joy of speed as I raced down an empty path. When my chest felt like it was on the verge of explosion and my legs were no longer communicating I slowed down. The path under my feet was a light sand. The trees around me bent and swayed in the gentle wind. I relished the shade and mild temperature, the occasional gust that helped cool me.

My body recovered quickly and I picked up my pace again. My first trainer, a man named Merl who Mulberry sent to me in Puerto Penasco, taught me not to, as he put it, “blow my load” at the beginning of a jog. I tried to keep my pace steady as Blue and I wandered down paths that wound past lakes, families picnicking on large green fields, and shrubs pruned into abstract shapes.

Coming off a shaded trail into an opening, I looked up against the sun and saw the back of six columns in a semi-circle. I raced up the steps, taking them two at a time (not thinking about Rocky, or at least trying to avoid the comparison). At the top I stopped to catch my breath. Turning away from the columns toward the city, I looked out over a large boulevard. It looked like it went on forever. I felt that the whole of the metropolis lay before me.

#Interview for #Author Maria Hammarblad

buttonHow did you get into writing?

Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog! I’ve always wanted to write. As a little girl, I would admire the books in my mom’s bookshelf. She had some older volumes, dark green with gold on the spines, and I thought they were so beautiful. I wanted to make some myself. Books have always seemed magical to me. They’re nice to look at, and open doors to new worlds. Nowadays many are electronic, of course, but their covers are still nice to look at in the computer. =)

What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

I get to spend time with the imaginary people living in my head, and it seems normal. I’ve always had an extremely vivid imagination, living in my own world. As a writer, it’s okay to be a little eccentric.

How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

The stories come from all sorts of places. Usually, I see something in real life and my mind starts asking, “What if…” It goes along the lines of: “What if that guy is really an undercover cop?” “Wow, this is a really deserted road. What if a spaceship would land here right now.” Crazy stuff, but I can’t stop playing with it, and then a story is born.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced with being a writer?

For me, it’s been the cultural differences. I’m Swedish originally, and even if Swedish and American people share the same ideas of what a book is, we have different cultural conventions surrounding writing styles and acceptable subjects. People from different places also react differently. It’s difficult to get around, because what’s “normal” or believable to me can seem completely wacko to an American. I’m learning, but it takes time.

How did you choose the genre you write?

To be honest, I think it chose me. I mean, I never planned to be a scifi romance writer; it’s the genre that came naturally to me. I sometimes write contemporary stories too, when I see something that captures my imagination, but I would have a hard time changing tracks completely. As an example, I know many writers who write fantastic historical books. I wouldn’t know where to start. If I tried, my mind would probably paint it out like, “Hmmm, 17th century France, girls frolic around in gorgeous dresses and a spaceship lands on a meadow…”

Do you do a lot of research prior to writing your stories?

Yes I do. I usually start writing and realize I know nothing about the subject matter. The most extreme case was when I wrote Kidnapped and enrolled in a college class in astrobiology… If I write something contemporary, I often go out and talk to people who might know more. Google is also invaluable; I can’t fathom how much time research must have taken before the Internet.

Don’t get me wrong, I make the books up and tweak reality so it fits better, but I think it’s easier to make a world believable if it at least has roots in the truth.

How long does it take to finish a book?

I usually write a first draft quickly. Getting the major parts done takes a couple of weeks. After that, I tinker with it for months or even years. I just finished working on a book I started in 2010. It’s been slumbering in the computer for long periods of time, and I can’t even remember how many times I’ve re-written it.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I play the bass. I used to play in a couple of rock bands back in Sweden, but I haven’t had enough time and energy to invest in it lately. I also like making videos – I help a local dog rescue make videos of the dogs, and I make book trailers.

I often get really into something and do it with heart and soul for a few months, and then I’m bored. Last year I thought archery was the coolest thing ever. When I eventually learned to hit the target, I grew bored…

What is in your to be read pile?

My husband bought me some books for Christmas, and a real, physical book is a treat nowadays. I have the new Odd Thomas book by Dean Koontz waiting, and a new Stephen King book. In my Kindle, “The Green Rose” by Stephanie Burkhart waits for me, along with “Hex and the Single Witch” by Roxanne Rhoads. I started reading the latter the other day, but real life called so I didn’t get very far.

Could you name one favorite quote?

Right now I say, “Caffeine is good for you” a lot. I don’t know if it counts as a quote, but I’ll go with it anyway. =D

 Book Description:

In this second novella in the “Embarkment 2577” series, the story picks up shortly after it left off in “Brand New World.” The main character Alex has come to terms with her new life on a starship in the year 2577, and reluctantly won both respect and admiration for her actions during an alien attempt to conquer the ship.
Little does she know a number of new trials are about to shake her world. Besides encounters with alien species and an unexpected relative surfacing, a fatal navigation error will test her relationships with both her android lover and her friends.

Excerpt High Gravity

“Joshen Martinez is an old friend of mine, a mentor, he wouldn’t hurt you. He just wants to connect you to a machine that will tap out your memories. Your knowledge is valuable, and everyone would be able to see what you know. Sort of… like watching a movie.”

Having people watch all my memories? Intrusion of privacy, much?

I got to my feet. “I’ve heard enough of this. I have other things to do.”

Kevin stood up too. “Yes you do. Go pack your bags. This joke is over and you’re coming with me to the Kentucky.”

I took a step towards the door. “In your dreams.”

Blake said, “Sit down. Both of you.”

He didn’t raise his voice, but it was impossible not to obey. Kevin opened his mouth and my Captain made a dismissive gesture. “You’ve already said too much. Sit down and be quiet.”

Watching the scientist sink down, carefully keeping his mouth shut, filled me with glee. Blake pressed a button on his desk. “Commander Adam, could you come to my office for a minute, please.”

My husband’s voice filled the room. “Right away, Sir.”

I didn’t realize how tense I was until he stood in the doorway and I dared relax. He glanced between me and Kevin and crossed his arms over his chest. Adam was tall, strong, intimidating, and mine.

“What’s going on?”

Once again, Kevin opened his mouth. Blake snapped, “Silence.”

Kevin leaned back in his chair and rolled his eyes.

“Adam, this is Kevin. He has come to retrieve your wife.”

“Not happening, Sir.”

I wanted to squirm. “Can I move now?”

Blake smirked. “Yes Alex, you may move.”

I bounced to my feet and threw my arms around Adam. He hugged me back and murmured, “Don’t worry.”

After kissing me tenderly, he put his hands on my shoulders and turned me around so I faced Kevin. Then, he wrapped his arms around me from behind. “This is my wife. She means more to me than my life. She definitely means more to me than your life. If I were you, I’d choose my next words wisely.”

I glanced up at him. “I love you too.”

He smiled and brushed his lips over my temple.

Blake leaned his elbows on the desk and tapped his fingers together. “Mr Nolan, have we satisfied your curiosity, or do you wish to continue the discussion with the commander? I’m sure he’d be more than happy to demonstrate his… abilities. Would you like to see him fold a spare piece of hull plating a couple of times?”

“We’re good.”

Book Description:

When Alexandra wakes up in an unknown environment, populated by a cat-like woman with a tail and a hologram of a rockstar, she knows she has to be hallucinating. Maybe she hit her head, or finally suffered that nervous breakdown. It doesn’t get any better from finding out she died and was taken into the future by the elusive Adam, whom she can’t remember, or from people telling her she’s on a spaceship.

The last year or so is gone from her memory, and she has no choice but to try to adapt. As days go by, her new environment becomes more and more unnerving. She finds herself helpless, and completely dependent on a man who isn’t even human.

“Brand New World” is the first novella in the “Embarkment 2577” series.

Author Bio:pic

Born in Sweden in the early 1970’s, Maria showed a large interest for books at an early age. Even before she was able to read or write, she made her mom staple papers together into booklets she filled with drawings of suns and planets. She proudly declared them, “The Sun Book.” They were all about the sun. She also claimed, to her mother’s horror, that her being on Earth was a big mistake and that her alien family would come and bring her home at any moment. This never happened, but both the interest in space and the passion for bookmaking stayed with her.

As an adult Maria’s creativity got an outlet through playing bass in a number of rock bands, and through writing technical manuals and making web pages for various companies and organizations. She did write drafts for a few novels, but the storytelling muse was mostly satisfied through role playing online on Myspace. It was here, while writing stories together with people from around the globe, she stumbled onto Mike. They started talking out of character, and she moved over to Florida to him late 2008. Today the two are married and live in the Tampa Bay area with three rescue dogs.

Besides writing and playing bass, Maria enjoys driving off-road, archery, and Tameshigiri.

#Review of Finding Claire Fletcher #book tour

Image

I reviewed Finding Claire Fletcher as part of a blog tour. The book pulled me in from the very beginning and I found myself eager to get to the next page to find out what happened. The author did a wonderful job of portraying a tortured female, trapped for ten years by a deviant pervert, who’d kidnapped her from her normal life. I felt sympathy for the female character’s plight. I couldn’t imagine spending a decade being beaten, tortured and raped. The story moved at a wonderful pace, and the characters were very believable. It was far too easy to picture the events of this woman’s life. The suspense of watching Connor trying to find and save Claire is one that had me biting my nails as I continued to scroll page to page. On a scale of one to five, I’d give this a four and a half. Wonderful, believable read. I definitely plan to recommend this story to my friends.

Back to the Blogasphere

As I work on promoting my new books, I realized it’s been almost a year since I’ve published anything to my blog. Time has flown by and I’ve went through some dramatic changes. My mind has become full circle back to my passion of writing. I’ve just published four books, two novels and two short erotica stories. I’ve chosen the self-publishing route once again and hope it pays off. In addition to these books, I’ve also managed to finish the one novel which has plagued me since the beginning of my writing career. With it came the blank slate of not knowing where to go next. However, I refuse to allow myself to bask in my accomplishments and I’m hard at work on finishing the revisions for my first ever Suspense/Thriller. With luck, I’ll have both of these books ready to be released to the public before the end of the year.

To celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday, and the publishing of my work, I’m giving away a free copy of my short Erotica Christmas story to anyone who comments on this post. And that’s not all…One lucky winner will get a choice of either of my Paranormal Romance novels. Pregnant men, or a sexy bodyguard. Which would you choose? If you don’t win, don’t be dismayed. For a limited time, each of my books are on sale for just $0.99! Be sure to follow my blog and leave your email in the comments box for your chance to win. And share with your friends! Everyone loves a sexy, naughty Santa!

Guest Blogger Casey Crow

Tell us about Can’t Fake This.

Casey: CAN’T FAKE THIS started out on a whim. At the last minute, I decided to enter this 10,000 word contest. I’d written spicy mainstream, but this was my first dive into erotic waters. I didn’t win the contest, but after having what I thought was a good start, I added some more words and low and behold, this erotic became the first manuscript I sold.

The story is about a divorcee ready to reenter the dating world. Anna Ryan is determined to be the best “product on the market,” which requires a lot more experience so she propositions sexy police officer Chase Harris to teach her how to make hot, passionate love as opposed to just having sex. He takes it a step further, instructing each lesson based on The Twelve Days of Christmas.

I love that you incorporated the 12 Days of Christmas into this story! Is there a favorite “day” in your story that you’d like to share?

Casey: Chase gives Anna two Dove chocolate candies to symbolize Two Turtle Doves. This is my favorite day because it’s so different from the rest. It’s the only day they don’t make out. Anna would definitely disagree with me, and in fact gets in a huff because Chase makes her talk when she wants much more than that!

What was the most challenging part?

Casey: By far the most difficult part was coming up with so many detailed sex scenes and making each one fresh and unique. It sounds funny saying that because really there are worse things to have to write about than sex, you know? But twelve days equates to a lot of stripping down, and there are only so many ways you can take off your clothes. LOL

Since CAN’T FAKE THIS is a holiday-themed story, I’m curious…at what time of the year did you write the story? And if you wrote it in say June or March, how did you get yourself in the holiday spirit?

Casey: I wish I had a better story, but I didn’t have to break out the Christmas CDs in the middle of July. I wrote the original 10,000 words (for the contest) for a few weeks in October so as luck would have it, it was late November, early December when I decided to add more to the story. I do think writing CAN’T FAKE THIS added to my Christmas spirit. It’s such a fun story.

Describe your writing process.

Casey: I’m a plotter for sure, but the outline is very vague so if my characters want to take a detour, I’m okay with that. I’m also linear. As for as my schedule goes, after taking the children to school, I go to the gym (because if it doesn’t happen in the a.m., it’s not going to happen) then write until it’s time to return to “mom” mode. I usually squeeze in some time late at night, too.

What is the best writing advice you received?

Casey: I’ve been fortunate to have tremendous support, especially from my mentor, the fabulous RITA nominated Cynthia Eden, whom I bug all the time with questions. I’m pretty sure along my journey since joining RWA in 2009, Cynthia said, “Don’t give up.” Rejections are to be expected. Keep writing through them, and your writing will only get better.

What is the worst writing advice you received?

My writing is southern and sassy. Down-to-earth. I try to write like folks actually talk so those no-no’s you’ve heard about “was” and adverbs, I’ve learned to take in stride. You can’t let rules overrule your voice.

What are you currently reading?

On my nightstand this week is Tangled up in Love by Heidi Betts.

You’ve long been a fan of romance novels. What prompted you to cross over to the writing side of things?

Casey: In high school and college, I only read text books. I was a bit of a nerd. Okay, that’s a lie. I was a huge nerd so I didn’t even get started on romance until I was twenty-five. Oddly enough, my mom, an avid reader of all romance genres first encouraged me to write. About the time I started thinking, “I could do this,” she said, “You can.” Thank goodness too, because I love it and turned the hobby turned into a career when I joined Romance Writers of America in 2009.

You spent some time in pageant life. What was that like?

Casey: As a dancer and gymnast, I was on stage my whole life, but I began competing in pageants at fifteen to prepare for Jr. Miss (now Distinguished Young Woman). I’ve done everything from glitz to natural. I prefer youth development programs where talent is the primary focus. I’ve competed in the Miss America and Miss Universe systems. I have to say it was pretty cool being Miss University of Alabama, but my most memorable reign was Miss Motorsports, where I got to be a NASCAR spokesmodel and hang out with all the famous drivers.

Pageants typically have a negative connotation, but the friendships, public speaking skills, and confidence I gained make me a firm believer in the many positive aspects they provide. My eight-year-old daughter now competes and likes the fact that she has more nationals titles than me. She has sung in Branson, MO and opened a concert for CMA artist Ashton Shepherd. None of that would have been possible without her pageant experience. As a pageant coach for over twenty years, and I still get such an adrenaline rush teaching modeling and interview to girls of all ages. It’s incredibly rewarding to see one’s self-confidence grow with each lesson.

If you cook, do crafty stuff, or have a hobby, please share the details with readers.

Casey: I do cook and love crafts, but considering I’m about four years behind on scrapbooking, I don’t think it counts if it stays in a box under the bed. The one thing I truly do for just me is take a dance class. I used to own a dance studio so this is a great way for me to keep in shape and up-to-date for when I choreograph for my pageant students. I’m in a class with a bunch of other teachers and former dance competitors. It’s not easy by any means. The best part is that we rock the house during recital time. Old ladies, apparently, still have it.

Is there a genre you’d like to write?

Casey: I’d love to write YA. Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of teenagers either as a dance instructor or pageant coach, and it fascinates me how they flip flop between still being kids and being incredibly mature.

Any upcoming conferences?

Casey: I’m presenting my PITCH PERFECT workshop at Silken Sands, sponsored by the Gulf Coast Chapter of RWA, the sister chapter to Southern Magic. You can register at http://www.gccrwa.com/silkensands/ and enjoy March 16-18 on Pensacola Beach! Plus, the So. Magic contest winners will be announced there!

I’ll also be hanging out with the cover hotties at the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in April in Chicago. I’ll present the same workshop and they have asked me to be a “Pitch Doctor” in the pitch room to help writers right before the pitch to editors and agents.

 What’s next for Casey Crow?

Casey: Thanks for asking! I have two other manuscripts on submission right now with various agents and editors. HUSTLER’S DREAM is about a southern socialite pool shark who hustles the wrong guy, or is he? FEELS SO RIGHT is about a country music agent and her ex-boyfriend songwriter. I’m also half way finished with FAST DREAM, the sequel to HUSTLER’S DREAM, about a female NASCAR tire changer in love with the driver.

I just signed with Siren Publishing for DANCE WITH A MILLIONAIRE, which features a ballerina. It will be out in e-book in March 2012 and print in July. This one, like my other works aside from CAN’T FAKE THIS, are spicy mainstream.

I swear they’re not autobiographical! But, I’m passionate about the things I enjoy, and they invariably make their way into my writing. My tagline is “Sexy, Sass & Southern” and all my heroines are just that.

Review of “My Life as a Sex-O-Gram”

My Life as a Sex-O-Gram

Thanks to a friend on Facebook, I downloaded this book from Amazon for free. The title caught my eye and I thought it would be a fascinating book to read. This story is told in the first person narrative and it’s a lot of walking through the scenes. The abrupt sexual scenes and behaviors surprised me quite a bit. The scenes were graphic and explicit, which I enjoyed. I did notice a lot of redundancy in the phrases, which meant that the writer repeated the same thoughts multiple times. As a fellow writer, this automatically caught my attention, though a regular reader probably wouldn’t notice.

Despite these few minor technical issues, the story was different from anything I’d ever read and made me think more of a fictional journal or memoir than an actual story. There was no plot line, conflict, climax or resolution. The character didn’t experience any sort of life altering scenario, other than deciding to branch out on her own from a stripper-o-gram to a basic prostitute.

If readers enjoy hot sex, very descriptively written out, anal sex, F/F, multiple partners, masturbation, and/or domination, this may be a book you’d pick up. For readers who are not interested in any of this stuff, you may want to find a different book, as this story contains a scenario of each and more.

I’d rate this book a 3.5.

Bad and NaughtyNormally, I’m a naughty girl, especially when writing erotica, but today, I think I’ll be nice. I’ve been shocked into submission by some of the blogs I’ve visited lately that have more nudity and cock than I’ve seen in Playgirl. Not that I’m complaining. It’s great inspiration and a nice visual aid. Just very, very unexpected. Why, I’m not sure. Regardless, you won’t be seeing any naked pictures here. “AWW! That sucks!” Yes, I know. To be honest, the reason I don’t post pics of hot and sometimes naked guys is I have no idea where to find them. I’d hate to just type in naked men into my browser, copy that pic and then have someone come after me for piracy.

I hope to one day be able to figure out where my wonderful friends get such delightful eye candy QueenTutfrom so I may share a snack or two with my wonderful readers. So cross your fingers ladies! Hopefully we’ll have some sexy men soon. Until then, we’ll have to live vicariously through others’ blogs. Don’t think I won’t be burning up the links of the participating authors for this hop. I hope to find more great photos like I did at Queen Tut’s. Wowsa! Y’all be sure to make this a stop on your list if you’re interested in great prizes and yummy naked, full frontal men!

Excerpt:

“I love you Nala.”

She looked up at him and knew he meant it.

“And I love you. Will you make me yours now?”

Reaching down, he spread her legs and slipped one finger inside. “God, you’re so wet.”

Nala begin to squirm as he sped up his ministrations. Pressure built as he pleasured her. She tried to stop him but he pushed her hands away.

“Let go.”

She surrendered to the feelings. A scream exploded from her throat as she climaxed. When she came down, she noticed Gabriel looking down at her.

“That was great.”

Gabriel gave her a feral grin. “That’s nothing compared to what’s next.”

He slid into her, letting her adjust before going deeper. He groaned in ecstasy as he moved in and out, gaining speed but holding back so he would not hurt her. Nala gasped and sobbed at the feelings he evoked. She went higher with every thrust and was just about to fall over the edge when Gabriel stopped. Nala followed her instincts and moved her hips, rocking against him.

“Nala, you have to stop.”

She heard the strained words and felt the strength of his hands at her waist, but kept going.

“In a minute.”

She could feel it building. Her breath came in pants as the first ripples started.

“Open your eyes.”

She obeyed his command. Her eyelids felt heavy as she forced them to open against the pleasure. When Gabriel started to glow a pale white, Nala gasped. She looked at her own hands in surprise. She was glowing too.

“Gabriel, what’s happening?”

He smiled. “It’s the mating ritual I told you about. Look over there.”

Nala followed the sound of increasing mumbles. A group of see-through figures hovered over the floor, staring right at them as they spoke in a strange language. They started to move closer. Nala squirmed to get out from underneath Gabriel.

“Let me up. I don’t want anyone seeing us.”

Gabriel held her under him with a tender kiss. “Don’t worry. They don’t see. They just sense when a mating ritual is occurring and appear to bless the union. Once they’re done, they disappear.”

Welcome to my addition of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. You may have noticed that I’m participating in a lot of blog hops this month. That’s because to me, Christmas is about giving. That’s why every hop I enter this month will have a free copy of my paranormal romance, Heart Over Mind smashwordsHeart Over Mind available to one lucky winner. For those of you who don’t win, keep your head up. There’s a bunch more chances to win. I’m hosting giveaways on my website, and on my Facebook fan page. If you’d like to enter for the bookmarks, please state in your comment. I know some people don’t collect those.

If I could have one thing for Christmas, besides for my children having the time of their lives and getting everything they want, it would be a white Christmas.White Christmas Some people are probably a bit curious about this. See, I live in West Tennessee, where the most snow we see is usually less than two feet. That often occurs in the middle of February. We’re lucky to see four snow storms a year. I don’t want anything heavy, but it would be nice to wake up Christmas morning to a bit of white stuff on the ground. If only we could have that without intense cold, I’d be a happy camper! I hate cold weather. Thank goodness the coldest it ever gets here is 7 degrees. I don’t think I could handle sub zero temps. And I want to visit Alaska! Ha. I’m a walking contradiction.

So readers, what do you what most for Christmas? (Oh, did I mention I also want a Kindle Fire? For purely selfish reasons of course. Hey, Momma’s allowed to ask Santa for stuff too! LOL)Dear Santa

To enter for this giveaway, all you have to do is follow these simple instructions:
